Naming Women's Midlife: British Columbia Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI) Annual Conference 2024

One of the major hurdles for all of us working to assist midlife women with their symptoms and understanding has been the decades-long confusion in terminology. Even within a medical, peer-reviewed publication, the term “menopause” is often used in three very different ways. That is the antithesis of Science. Others have considered the term “Menopausal Transition” adequate to cover the entire changing years for symptomatic women prior to a year without flow. That caused further confusion. So, when I was invited to speak for 3 minutes at the start of the British Columbia Women’s Health Research Institute annual conference on March 8, 2024, I wrote a one-pager for audience distribution.
