The bone mineral density reading that relates a person’s bone mineral density to their sex and age-matched values in a random population sample (ideally) or in the bone density machine’s database (that is often of healthy and advantaged people and thus risks inaccuracy). A Z-Score is used to assess the bone mineral density of a man less than 50 or a woman who is not yet menopausal.
