A kind of hormone called a catecholamine that is made by nerves and in the centre of the adrenal gland. Adrenaline is released in large amounts with the “fight or flight” response to threat or stress. It causes the heart to beat faster and blood vessels in arms and legs to constrict. It is also called epinephrine.
